Why a hackathon on Bandung’s heritage?

Cultural heritage has a universal value for us as individuals, communities and societies. It is important to preserve and pass on to future generations.

What is more, our heritage has a big role to play in building the future. By highlighting cultural heritage in Bandung, we will emphasise:

  • how it builds stronger societies
  • how it creates jobs and prosperity
  • its importance for our relations with the rest of the world
  • what can be done to protect it

Experiment new strategies for (creative) heritage practice

Facilitating networks between participants

Protecting cultural heritage

Facilitating a „final product“ which helps to connect the community with their heritage in an innovative and fun way

How does it work?

The selected participants will be working on topics exploring the rich Bandung inner city heritage, both tangible and intangible.

They are invited to explore the chosen track and produce an idea. They will be invited to take userviews, feasibility, business potential into account. Mentors with history, anthropology, architecture, IT backgrounds will help them in developing the idea into a project.

Mentors will share their knowledge also in parallel workshops and conferences.

How will it work?

25 Participants (age 18-35)  will be recruited through a call in August and partnering universities. They will be given 6 topics/tracks related to Bandung inner city heritage to choose from: the diversity of cultures/the Asia-Afrika conference legacy/Braga in all its dimensions/exploring culinary heritage/soundscapes/the worship places ….. along with some data related to those tracks.

They will be invited to explore the chosen track and produce an idea. They will be invited to take userviews, feasibility, business potential into account. Mentors will help them in developing the idea into a project.

Mentors will be coming from the partners and will share their knowledge also in parallel workshops and conferences.
